1. Cut your headband fabric

Follow the pattern measurements above to cut 2 main headband pieces, 2 headband strips and one piece of elastic.

Cutting out the fabric pieces

To make the headband reversible, cut one headband piece and strip from one fabric, and the second headband piece and strip from your other fabric.

Cutting the pattern on the fold

If you want, you can make headband pattern pieces as in the image above. Make sure to cut all pieces on the fold of your fabric.

Pinning the edges of the headband pieces

2. Sew your headband pieces

Turn in and pin both edges of your headband pieces.

Sewing along the edges

With right sides facing, pin your headband pieces together and sew along the long edges, leaving a gap for turning it right-side-out.

Pinning and sewing the headband strips

Pin and sew the two headband strips together in the same way. It is not necessary to leave a gap in the headband strip.

Trimming the excess fabric

Trim the excess fabric from all seam allowances.

Turning the headband right sides out

Turn the headband strip right side out.

Make your own headband

Turn the headband right side out and sew up the gap.

Iron both pieces.

Making an elasticized strip

3. Make an elasticized strip

Use a safety pin to insert the small piece of elastic into the headband strip. Then pin and hand sew both ends of the strip closed, catching the elastic at both ends.

Attaching the strip to the headband

4. Attach the strip to the headband

Insert one end of the elasticized headband strip into one end of the headband. Pin the elasticized strip in place.

Now do the same with the other end of the strip and the other end of the headband.

Hand-sewing the elastic strip at both ends
