How to Add Texture to Hair: 3 Easy Wavy Hair Methods
When it comes to curling your hair, there isn’t just one approach but there are many out there that you can use.
In this tutorial, I’m going to be showing you three quick and easy methods I use to get effortless-looking beachy waves. If you want to know how to add texture to your hair, read on.
Tools and materials:
- Hair oil
- Constructor spray
- Hairdryer with diffuser
- Hairspray
- Hair clip
- Curling wand
- Volumizing spray
- Hairbrush
1. Hair twist method
1. Apply oil
Start off with towel-dried hair and apply some hair oil to give your hair some shine and keep the frizz at bay.
2. Apply spray
Then use a constructor spray which will give your hair a lot of texture and help it to hold the curl better.
3. Twist hair
Now take small random pieces of hair and twist them in different directions, both inward and outward.
This will make the waves look natural.
4. Diffuse hair
Once that's done, take your hair dryer and attach your diffuser to it.
Keeping the heat level at medium, place your hair on top of the diffuser. Then scrunch up your hair and hold it in the ridge area.
Doing this helps to enhance the waves and, as you will see, once your hair is dry, it is automatically wavy.
5. Scrunch hair
Lastly, just spray some hairspray in order to make the waves much more long-lasting, and then scrunch it one more time.
This method is ideal if you like that natural-looking wavy hair look.
2. Snake bun method
If you want something more, I have a second approach to show you, which is a heatless method.
1. Bring hair together
For this, start with slightly damp hair.
If it's a second-day hair, you can always go ahead and spray some water on it to give it some kind of moisture.
Then tip your head over and bring it up to the top of your head. You can also comb it to bring it all together.
2. Twist hair
Twirl your hair from the roots up to the end.
3. Snake into a bun
Snake it around and make a bun on the top of your head.
4. Clip hair
Secure it tightly with a hair clip and leave it in for a while. I left my hair like this for about 30 minutes.
You can also do this hairstyle before bed and sleep with it in.
5. Add texture spray
Let the clip out, and to add some texture to the hair, go in with your constructor spray.
Spray it all over and scrunch your hair.
You have amazing big wavy curls. The longer you leave the clip in, the better the results will be.
3. Curling iron method
The spray is not only good for giving texture to the hair, but it also protects it from any kind of heat, which brings us to the third method.
For this method to add curls to your hair, we’re going to be using a curling wand.
1. Apply texturizing spray
Apply the texturizing spray before using the curling wand.
2. Curl hair at the front
Keeping the heat at medium, take two sections of your front hair and roll it backwards onto the wand.
Always make sure to curl the front portions of the hair away from the face.
3. Curl hair further back
Then take some sections further back and curl them inward.
Then, take some other sections and curl them backward, just go about it randomly so that the curls look natural and effortless.
4. Twist hair
Lastly, run your fingers through the curls and twist random bits and pieces here and there to make the curls look messier and to give you beachy waves.
5. Apply volumizing spray
I really don’t like backcombing my hair so I use a volumizing spray which gives my roots a big boost of volume.
6. Spray and brush hair
Lastly, set it all in place with a hairspray and then gently settle down the flyaway hairs with a fine tipped hairbrush.
These curls should stay in place even a few days after doing them.
