Tools and materials:
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Elastic
- Pins
- Fabric marker
- Sewing machine
1. Pin and sew the edges of the sleeves
For the sleeves of our off-shoulder white top, you’ll need two pieces of cotton fabric that are 16.5x7 inches. Fold the edges of the sleeves on both sides and pin.
Sew.
2. Cut your elastic band
Cut your elastic to size for both the sleeves and body of your top. For the front and back body panel, you’ll need two pieces of elastic. For the top, you’ll need a 13-inch one and for the bottom, you’ll need a 12-inch one. For the sleeves, you’ll need four pieces that are 8 inches each.
3. Mark your sleeves
Mark 1 inch from the top and bottom edges of your sleeves.
Then, fold and mark the center mark on the top and bottom.
4. Pin and sew the elastics to the sleeves
Pin the 8-inch elastic to the center mark and both outer edges to the top and bottom of the sleeve and then sew.
5. Pin and sew the elastics to the body panels
Mark the center mark and 1-inch from the top of your fabric. Pin the 13-inch elastic to the top, and then sew.
Mark the center mark and 3 inches from the bottom of your fabric. Pin the 12-inch elastic to the bottom and then sew.
Here’s what all of your pieces should look like after sewing.
6. Pin and sew the individual pieces together
Fold your sleeves end to end and pin, and then pin the top and back panels together.
Then, sew together with a zigzag stitch.
7. Pin the sleeves to the body
Pin the sleeves to the body.
8. Mark the sleeves and sew
Mark the center mark, as well as 1.5 inches on both sides of the center mark.
Sew along the 3-inch line.
