Brigitte Bardot is one of my biggest hair icons, and I genuinely think she has the best hair in all of history. Now that I have bangs, I’m super excited that I get to recreate her hair and do more Brigitte Bardot-inspired hairstyles.

If you want to get Brigitte Bardot's hair, follow along as I show you how with three iconic looks.

Tools and materials:

  • Curling iron
  • Heat protector spray
  • Hairbrush
  • Volumizing dry shampoo
  • Bow clip
  • Hair tie
  • Bobby pins

Style 1 - Brigitte Bardot messy curls

Curling hair with a curling iron

1. Curl hair

Start by curling your hair with a curling iron (I used a 25mm one). Brigitte Bardot’s hair is a little wavy, so that’s the look I’m going to go for. Before curling, I recommend applying a little bit of heat protector spray.

I’m going to curl my hair quite casually, not going pinning sections out the way or anything like that.

I usually like to curl my hair away from my face, but this time, I’m going to curl it towards my face. I don’t want very defined curls; I’m more looking to create some texture and volume.

Brushing out curls to make them messy

2. Brush

With all of your hair curled, now brush the curls out to make them less like defined curls and more like a messy texture.

Spraying volumizing dry shampoo

3. Spray

Next, take a volumizing dry shampoo and spray a little bit of that next to your parting on both sides and on your crown. Be sure to brush and massage that in to make sure to get rid of any white marks.

It’s ok if all of this looks a little bit messy because that is the look after all.

Splitting the bangs

4. Split and comb bangs

The next step is to split your bangs in half and comb them to the side.

Backcombing the crown

5. Backcomb crown

Then go back to your crown again, take a big chunk of hair from here, and on top of the volumizing spay, you want to backcomb this a little bit.

Not too much - you don’t want anything crazy, just a little bit more of a lift. Then comb over this.

Spraying the bangs with hairspray

6. Spray bangs

I’m going to spray my bangs with some hairspray because they won't hold otherwise.

Here is your basic Bardot look. It has a lot of volume, a little bit of a messy wave, and somewhat split bangs.

Style 2 - Brigitte Bardot's half-up, half-down hairstyle

The second hairstyle is only a small step from this, and it is her iconic half-updo. This is, I think, the most Brigitte Bardot hairstyle that people think of when they think of her hair.

Sectioning and clipping hair

1. Section and clip hair

To achieve this look, you just need to grab from the back part of your hair a little bit more than the section you just backcombed.

Pull it back towards the top of your head and make sure to leave plenty of hair in front of it. Then, fasten it with a clip with a big bow.

You can use a hair elastic or some bobby pins and put the hair bow on top, or just leave the bow out completely.

Tugging the top for more volume

2. Tug

Then I’m going to tug at the top to make it a poofier. We don’t want anything too big; she didn’t really wear the gigantic '60s poof all too often. Her hair was more just voluminous than teased up to the heavens like they used to do in the '60s.

Backcombing the front

3. Backcomb

I want the hair at the front to be more prominent, so I’m going to backcomb it at the front to give some more volume to this section of hair. Again just smooth over the top, so it’s not as noticeable.

4. Split bangs

For this style, I will split my bangs a little more to the side to get a bit more variation.

Style 3 - Brigitte Bardot updo

Tying hair up in a messy ponytail

1. Tie hair up

For the third hairstyle, I am going to flip my hair forward and put all of my hair up right on my crown. So gather everything, and again I’m going to leave it really messy and loose. Then, I’m going to tie it on top of my head.

Pulling out hair at the front

2. Pull out hair at the front

Then as I always do with Brigitte Bardot hairstyles, I’m going to make sure I have enough hair at the front. I’m going to pull out some strands as you always want to have something framing your face.

Clipping hair into a bun

3. Clip hair into a bun

With the hair that’s tied up, just bunch it up on top of your head, and now there are several things you can do: you can take a hair elastic to this and tie it up.

I like to use bobby pins, they allow me to leave this bun big and voluminous as it is now, so I’m just going to stick in bobby pins until it feels secure.

I’m literally just leaving it bunched up and just sticking pins in to make sure it holds.

Brigitte Bardot’s hairstyles are all about being messy, effortless, casual, and looking like she just threw her hair together in a hurry (which maybe she actually did).
