13 Simple Tips on How to Style a Midi Dress
Here, I’m going to show you how to style a midi dress.
Midi dresses are one of my favorite types of clothing. They are arguably one of the most versatile pieces in a modern wardrobe, suitable for every day thanks to their easy silhouette and ability to feel both smart and casual.
Comfortable, chic, and perennially modern, a midi dress will always be a go-to, no matter what your diary holds.
I’m going to share with you how you can wear them in new and different ways.
1. Add a belt
The addition of a belt that either came with the dress or that you added will instantly elevate it.
A statement belt will add so much power to the silhouette, it’s an instant insert of style.
A thin belt in a contrasting color to your dress will cinch the waist and give you the definition that we all want.
2. Add a turtleneck
The addition of a turtleneck will not only make your outfit cozier but will also add an unexpected charm to the look.
A turtleneck in a contrasting color to the dress is one of my favorite ways to style it.
3. Choose the right shoes
The type of shoes that you pair with your dress will help to determine how formal or casual the overall look is.
I recommend experimenting with colors. Go for white or red boots for maximum impact, they will contrast beautifully with your dress.
For something more classic, go for boots in camel, burgundy, or black. You can never go wrong with those.
Chunky platforms look really fun and funky and bring your personality forward.
For a more polished, Parisian style, sling-backs will do the trick.
You can add slides for the ultimate cool, casual result.
And there's no better way to take it to the weekend than by adding a denim jacket and sneakers.
4. Add a blazer
For professional settings, a fitted blazer is the best choice.
For something more formal, add a dark-colored blazer.
Or go for a lighter version for a more relaxed feel.
An oversized blazer will balance out the feminine pieces and bring a touch of modernity to the outfit.
5. Embrace color
Going for a bold, bright color will make you look fresh and current.
Pair a bold-colored dress with black accessories and outerwear.
6. Add layers
When it starts to get more chilly, layering is the best alternative.
Either a long cardigan or a trench coat is guaranteed to warm you up and make you look put together.
You can also add a chunky knit on top.
On really cold days, your dress can act as an extra warm layer.
A leather jacket is a great way to give a girly dress some edge.
7. Add more of the same color
A monochrome look is a fault-proof option, so you can definitely go in with more pieces in the same color.
8. Style a LBD
A flattering LBD can do wonders for you. Add simple accessories for a nonchalant daytime look.
The addition of a statement belt will define the waist and add extra charm.
A leather jacket in a modern style adds texture and sophistication, especially in a caramel color.
Make your dress go the extra mile by styling it under a sweater. Golden touches take it to the chic realm in no time.
9. Add pants
Adding pants underneath is one of the most stylish and fun ways to style a midi dress. Length is key with this tricky trend; you can go long or short.
When going long, make sure there's a revealing split to make sure you get a pop of the leg underneath.
You can dress it down with denim for the ultimate French feel.
10. Add a shirt
A shirt on top of a dress looks effortless yet stylish.
A light and breezy linen shirt is chic and elegant and also super easy to wear.
11. Add a print
Pick one color from the print or the print itself and carry it through into the rest of your outfit.
This is a great way to balance your look and add fun to it.
To master a clashing pattern, make sure all the elements of the outfit are in the same color.
12. Add a bag
For weekend wear, consider a slouchy number.
Alternatively, upgrade to a tote bag that lends high-fashion credentials to an everyday look.
Turn your look into eveningwear with an embellished bag.
13. Add a scarf
You can go for a silk scarf.
Or an oversized knit one.
For maximum impact, create a monochromatic look.
And a scarf is certainly eye-catching when worn under a belt.
