How to Make a Designer Jacket From Jeans
Imagine owning your own designer jacket! I decided to create my own! Follow my tutorial and see how I made this fashion show stopper from fabrics I already had at home. I knew this would be a unique piece to add to my wardrobe that would rope in the compliments! This piece was so much fun to make and I could really let my creative juices fly! Follow this step-by-step guide and learn how I made this incredible, designer jacket.
Tools and Materials:
- Sewing machine
- Jeans
- Jumper
- Gold ribbing
Before I could get started on this amazing jacket I needed to create a pattern. I started by draping some fabric on the stand to create a basic bodice shape.
I used masking tape to tape up darts I had added and tape all the seams together. Once everything was in place, I drew over the tape adding my style lines.
A great tip that helped me make this awesome jacket was adding notches of all the key points onto the pattern. I added notches and labeled the different pieces made my life a whole lot easier!
Once I had detailed the pattern as I needed to, I cut out the different pieces. I then placed the pattern on my denim fabric and cut the fabric pieces out, making sure to leave half a cm for seam allowance.
While I was creating this denim masterpiece, I made a few easy changes that just pulled the whole look together! I pulled the side seam at a forward slant and restyled the shape of the back. To create the beautiful bustled side of the jacket, I simply forced a straight line onto a curve to get some excess material. It’s definitely one of my favorite details on this jacket.
To create a one of a kind look, I added gold piping down the sides of my jacket which accentuated the style. I also added this detail on the back of the jacket creating a unique zig-zag pattern. I used a gold jumper to create the ribbing on the neckline and the ribbing on the hips. I love the gold accents on this denim show stopper!
I lined this designer jacket with an amazing vintage scarf. I adore how a detail like this can add so much to this piece. It's unbelievable to think I created this stunning jacket from fabric I had lying around the house!
This designer jacket has the perfect fit! What is your favorite detail on this piece? Let me know in the comments below!

Love the jacket, but would appreciate a photo of the back of the jacket.
