Hey, guys! I’ve got an old pair of my dad’s jeans, and I’m going to show you how to make a skirt from jeans. It’s a pretty easy and fun upcycle, and it’s a great project you can do with old jeans that don’t fit you anymore, an old pair that is just out of style, or something you just picked up from the secondhand store! So grab your old jeans or thrift a pair, and let’s get started on this tutorial on how to make a jeans skirt.

Tools and materials:

  • Old jeans
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Elastic
  • Pins

1. Cut out the fabric

Measure 20 inches lengthwise, and cut through both layers of the jeans. After I finish cutting, this will give me four sides, ten inches wide each, that will total 40 inches, which is the measurement of my hips.

Then, cut along the smaller seam on each piece, leaving the bigger seam intact. You can also use a seam ripper to undo them if you'd like, but I’m just going to use scissors.

2. Sew each piece together

Place the pieces right sides facing and sew along the sides.

3. Sew the hem

Roll the top down on all sides to get a smoother hem. Pin and sew it together, making sure to leave an allowance for elastic.

Push the elastic through the open space, and tie it together once it’s through. Then, finish sewing up the open space.
