Easy DIY Perfect for Beginners!!
This year, I’m making my summer wardrobe from items I already have.
I found this gorgeous lace curtain and it was the inspiration for the prettiest summer tote ever! See how I did it.
Tools and materials:
- Lace curtain
- Tote bag as template
- Pins
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
1. Gather
Cut strips 3 to 4 inches wide from the edges of the curtain.
Gather the raw edges on your sewing machine by using a long stitch length and a high tension.
2. Bag
Fold the rest of the curtain in half.
Use an existing bag as a template and cut out the bag shape.
3. Ruffle
Lay the two sections of the back on top of each other.
Pin the gathered lace ruffles around the side and bottom edges, joining the two pieces of the bag together, and sew in place.
4. Handle
Cut another strip of curtain for the handle.
Finish the long edges.
Attach the short ends to the inside of the bag, at the side seams.
Hem the top edge of the bag.
Easy DIY bag
The bag won’t hold a lot of weight, but it’s pretty and summery and cost nothing!
You can line it with a contrast fabric and add a woven handle for more strength if you want.
See what creative ideas you can come up with. And do let me know what you think of this.
