Mittens are a better choice than regular winter gloves for everyone who prefers warmth over finger dexterity. Unless you need the full use of your individual fingers, mittens are far superior as means to keep your hands nice and warm outdoors.

Here’s a free fleece mitten pattern that’s fun and simple so even beginners can use it and make themselves a fine pair of comfortable mittens. They look beautiful and stylish too. This is how you sew them.

Download and print out the fleece mitten pattern. Cut out the parts that fit your hand size and join the ones that require it. Set the parts onto the main fabric and cut around them. Flip the pattern pieces and repeat.

Prepare the fabric

Mark the fabric pieces of a set so you can match them with their pairs from the other set. Swap out the upper front pieces.

Stack the upper front pieces with the lower front pieces with their right sides together and their identical edges aligned. Pin them.

Repeat everything with the faux fur fabric.

Assemble the mittens

Sew each set along the raw edges they have aligned.

Stack those pieces with the remaining pieces of the same fabric. Lift the stitched part to make them identical in shape, align the edges, and make sure the right sides are in. Stitch all around, leaving the short straight edge unstitched.

Trim the allowance on all pieces, then turn the lining pieces inside-out. Insert them into their main fabric pairs.

Stitch the layer together around the opening, leaving a two-inches wide gap unstitched. Don’t sew the mittens shut!

Turn both mittens inside-out through the unstitched gap.

Push the lining into the main fabric and sew the gap for turning shut.

Now you’ll be the one making the best snowballs because as everyone knows, mittens are excellent at snowball makers. You won’t feel a touch of cold though, don’t worry! Check out our other articles as well, you might find more projects you’d like to try. Thanks for stopping by, come again!
