How to Style Short Hair: 5 Cute & Easy Hairstyles For Short Hair

For today’s tutorial, I decided to put together a lookbook of short hairstyles to show you how to style short hair! I know a lot of people with short hair struggle to style it, tending to leave it down or put it in a low bun.
I love my short hair and just because it’s short doesn’t mean I can’t experiment with it, so I put together a lookbook of five different styles for you guys.
This lookbook contains short hairstyles for women and short hairstyles for thin hair so if you fit the bill, keep reading!
Tools and materials:
- Dry shampoo
- Hair ties
- Bobby pins
- Brush
- Wide-tooth comb
- Hairspray
- Hair straightener
Look 1
1. Spray dry shampoo
Cover your hair in dry shampoo for a bit of volume.
2. Put your hair in a ponytail
Separate two front bits of your hair and then scrape the rest of your hair back into a slick ponytail.
3. Tease your ponytail
Tease your ponytail to give it a bit of volume.
4. Twist the ponytail into a bun
Then, twist it into a normal bun. Add a lot of bobby pins to keep the bun together. You can also scrunch up the bun and pull strands out to make it a bit messier.
Brush the flyaways upwards towards the bun and add more bobby pins!
5. Spray hairspray
Add hairspray just to make sure none of those flyaways are escaping.
6. Curl the front pieces of your hair
Shift the front bits of your hair over to one side and use a hair straightener to twist it away from your face, dragging it down to create a loose curl.
Here’s the finished look!
Look 2
1. Part your hair
Create a sharp side part with a wide-tooth comb.
2. Remove volume with water (optional)
I had dry shampoo in my hair so I just used a bit of water to remove some volume. If your hair naturally lays flat on your scalp, you can skip this step.
3. Create a slick ponytail
Brush your hair in the direction you want it to sit when you put it in a bun. Then tie it into a ponytail.
4. Twist into a bun
Twist your hair into a bun, then pin it down.
5. Pin the front sections down
If the front two sections of your hair don’t reach the hair tie, pin them down, hairspray them, and then use two bobby pins in a crisscross section so that they’re interlocked and won’t come out.
6. Slick your hair down and spray with hairspray
Make sure you’re constantly slicking your hair down with a flat palm and keep spraying with hairspray.
Here’s the finished look!
Look 3
1. Part and section your hair
Do a side part with the front section of your hair and section off the two front bits.
2. Brush your hair back
With a brush, sweep the rest of it towards the back of your head.
If your hair isn’t staying in the right position, add some hairspray.
3. Pin the front sections to your head
Pin the front bits as flat to your head as possible. Then, do the same crisscross bobby pin technique as in the previous look.
Use your fingers to slick it down then add hairspray.
4. Curl the ends
With the hair on the sides, go in with a straightener and, starting about halfway up the hair, twist outwards about 180 degrees and then pull downwards.
Here’s the finished look!
Look 4
1. Section and part
Part your hair into a side part and then gather all of your hair up in a ponytail at the crown of your head, save for one section.
2. Pin the front section
Slick the section down to your head, tuck it behind your ear, and secure it with hairspray and bobby pins in a cross pattern.
3. Create a ponytail
Get the longest piece of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the hair tie to hide it. Pin behind the ponytail.
Tease for a bit of volume then finish with hairspray.
Here’s the finished look!
Look 5
1. Part and section
Start with your hair already curled, and part your hair down the middle. Leave two strands in the front and create a top and bottom section.
2. Create a messy ponytail
Tie it up and pull out some strands of hair to make it messy.
3. Curl the front sections
Use a hair straightener to create waves in the front bits.
4. Create a bun
Twist the top ponytail into the bun and use bobby pins to secure it.
Here’s the finished look!

Stunning 👍
All are cute & I will share with my 10 yr. old grandchild. She has her hair cut in a bob. Unfortunately, my hair is curly & in layers, but I will use these as inspiration, because I do not want an "old lady" hairstyle😉
