Big Hoop Earrings From Upcycled Aluminum Cans

I seem to be on a jewelry-making kick lately. Today's project is particularly silly but I thought it was sort of fun and it is super easy. You don't need very many materials to make this fun pair of big hoop earrings.
To start with you need a couple of aluminum cans
You also need this nifty little tool. It is not really a crafting tool but I don't let those technicalities get in the way. :-)
The Draft Top is used to remove the entire top of the aluminum cans. And then the top portion of the can is cut off with a small pairing knife.
Then I used some sharp scissors to remove the unwanted pieces of aluminum to leave only the top ring.
The rough edges can be filed down with a sanding block/sharping stone. And then the jewelry hooks are attached to the hoops with two jump rings.
Like I said they are silly but kind of fun. If you would like to see some of the other projects I have made with the draft top tool or for more details on this project you can check out my blog post here.
Thanks for checking out my project.
Happy Upcycling,
Cindy

Hi Leslie,
Thanks for your question and comment. I have a safety can opener that I love to use on tin cans but I was not able to open aluminum cans with it. I think there are also cheaper versions of the draft top if you are interested. If you are still wanting to find the detailed instructions for the sun catcher there is a video tutorial in my blog post. I tried to put the like here but I don't think Hometalk allows links in the comments. Thanks again. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
Hi!! Where would you suggest I look for a version of the draft top at a reasonable price?!! Appreciate it!
