I love to recycle reuse and transform old things into loved again pieces that have a new life. I was lucky enough to be given a box of broken but wonderful vintage crockery and got so excited about what could be made from it all!

Broken crockery

I think about which pieces would make a lovely pendant and with so much to look through so spoilt for choice.

i like to cut the ceramic with wheeled tile nippers as these are so easy to cut through the crockery to shape the pieces. Always careful to protect eyes from flying china with protective eye goggles.

Tile nippers

I see a few designs that I like to shape into a pendant piece and carefully nibble away at the ceramic.

Nibble and shape

When I’m happy with the shape it’s time to smooth the edges with a rotary drill with grinding stone attachment.

The edges get smoothed and make sure mask worn to stop inhaling dust.

Sanding edges

Then when happy it’s time to glue a bail into the back of the ceramic. This will enable a chain to loop through and they come in different shapes and sizes. I choose one that matches well. I use two part epoxy resin which means an equal size mix of each then applied onto back of ceramic and back of bail. Hold firm for a few minutes The glue is set to harden quite fast so it’s dry in minutes.

Mix two part glue

Within minutes it’s ready for a chain to loop through and hang your pendant on.

Bail glued on

I am so delighted with result a super unique vintage ceramic pendant to treasure.
