Hole in epoxy resin

If you’re only used to working with epoxy resin, this method might be out of your comfort zone.

But not to worry! I’ll walk you through it, and it will be worth it. This UV resin method will fix your pieces time and time again.

Remember to always wear protective equipment, such as gloves, when using resin!

1. Insert a jump ring

You’re actually going to insert the jump ring first.

This is because once you apply the UV resin, it might make the hole too small for the jump ring.

So, open the jump ring using 2 sets of pliers.

Adding jump ring

Slide the jump ring in place and pinch it closed.

You may not even need to open the ring to slide it in place, depending on the size of the mistake.

2. Add a drop of UV resin and flash dry it

This hole is huge but add just a drop to close it.

Adding resin

Then shine UV light on the wet resin before it has a chance to drip onto the jewelry.

Drying resin

Apply more UV resin if the gap is still there.

Applying resin

Flash dry with the UV flashlight again. If the resin starts dripping down, move the jump ring so that it sits in the right spot.

Drying resin

The jump ring sometimes helps to hide the mistake, but not always.

So, you may not want to sell this piece. You could keep it for yourself or give it away as a present.

3. Fully dry the resin

Put your jewelry piece under the UV lamp for 1-2 minutes. Make sure to flip it to dry both sides.

And that, my fellow jewelers, is how you save your epoxy jewelry by filling in with UV resin.
