Introduction

In this post, I will show a black blazer outfit in six different ways. Please check them all out and let me know at the end which one is your favorite.

A black blazer is a basic wardrobe item.

It is a classic staple that can be worn year-round with a lot of variations. This particular blazer (very similar, here) is such a great piece that I had to do a whole blog post on it.

Why is it so terrific?

There are several reasons. The blaze r contains a bit of stretch which makes it very comfortable to wear even when traveling or when working at your desk.

In addition, this jacket has the added feature of a detachable gray hoodie insert. It’s a genius addition to a great wardrobe item. You actually button in the hoodie along the collar and zip in the sides.

This allows the look of a hoodie, without the bulk of an actual whole sweater.

Plus, it greatly increases the versatility of the blazer by adding a casual tone to the looks when the insert is employed.

First Black Blazer Outfit

In the above photo, I am wearing a black blazer with a leopard sweater and dark wash skinny jeans. When wearing a women’s blazer with jeans, a neat juxtaposition of casual with dressy occurs. I added pearls and nude D’Orsay pumps, and silver hoops, all of which add a classic bent to the look. This would be a great lunch with friends outfit, or a look for going out to dinner. I have a black clutch (old, similar, here).

Second Black Blazer Outfit

In this second look, I added back the gray hoodie insert and went with a more casual vibe, by adding a white tee, black crossbody bag, and sneakers. Style tip: to elevate this casual outfit, even more, I rolled the sleeves to expose the cute striped lining and I wore a leather maple leaf pin as I was on a fall trip to NYC.

Me on the Brooklyn Bridge wearing the black blazer with gray hoodie insert, whote tee, gray sneakers, black joggers and a blck cross body bag.

Here I am on the Brooklyn Bridge. I changed into gray Asics sneakers as we walked 17,000 steps this day! Style tip: when running around town, I prefer to use a crossbody purse.

date night look with the black blazer outfit, one of the six different looks. Here I wore the jacket with a black cami and skinny jeans.
Third Black Blazer Outfit

Here I have on a fun date night look. I paired the black blazer with skinny jeans and the same nude pumps ( similar, here) as the previous look, but I swapped out the white tee with a pretty Evereve black camisole, silver pave hoop earrings, and a black pebbled leather clutch bag (similar, here) that has a neat tortoiseshell clasp.

Fourth Black Blazer Outfit

This is a cute casual pairing of the jacket, with the hoodie, a black and white striped snap tee (similar, here), and very comfy and flattering tobacco brown slim-cut pants from Talbots. I wore my new charcoal sneakers by Taos and capped off my look with a small Madewell brown with black polka dot neck kerchief (similar, here). Isn’t it interesting to pair the black, brown, and charcoal colors all in one outfit? I love the combination!

black blazer with a leopard blouse. leopard belt, brown pant, black suede bootie. I am at the Plaza Hotel in NYC with my son's sweet girlfriend Rachel!
Fifth Black Blazer Outfit

Here I am above, at the Plaza hotel in NYC, with my son’s sweet fiancee, Rachel. We had a lovely tea. Here you see me in the same brown pants as in the fourth outfit, but this time I paired it with a leopard blouse, a leopard belt, and black suede Blondo booties. I added an amber beaded choker and pearl stud earrings. (Doesn’t Rachel look darling in her pink and black boucle jacket, over a black top and pants? I especially love her pink suede pumps!)

Sixth Black Blazer Outfit

Here I am on my way home from NYC at LaGuardia Airport! I added back the gray hoodie insert, and popped on a white long-sleeved tee, black joggers, and gray sneakers. To tie everything together, I added a black and gray leopard long tissue paper thin, cashmere scarf ( similar, here and, here). When I fly, I need to have a cashmere scarf or sweater, because I get so cold!

Style tip: one way to stretch pieces especially when on a trip, is to come up with very different looks with some of the staple pieces. Also, in order to justify a purchase, it’s very useful to try and come up with three distinct ways to style the item before purchasing it. Ask a stylish friend for suggestions or even your favorite (ahem) blogger. Seriously, people DM me all the time with fashion questions. I love to answer them. Feel free to DM me @drjuliemarshall or comment below.

At newly renovated LaGuardia airport, I am wearing the jacket casually and added a gray and black leopard long scarf.
