Why would you want to glue a rug to your slides? I know it sounds strange but this is a really fun DIY.

Take a pair of plain slides and turn them into a pair of fashionable, chic slip-ons.

Tools and materials:

  • Slides
  • Small area rug
  • Scissors
  • E6000 glue
  • Clothespins
Buying rug fabric

1. Prep for the project

Take a pair of old slides, or just pick up a cheap pair at a discount store if you don’t have a pair to work with.

You will also need to find some kind of cool textile. I recommend picking up a cool small area rug. You can find some really interesting textures and patterns in rugs.

Marking rug

2. Cut

Place the rug over the slides and use a marker to trace the size and shape of the top of the slides.

Cut-out

Use a pair of scissors to cut out the pieces.

Make sure you leave enough fabric to fold a quarter of an inch of fabric under the edges of the top of the slides.

Gluing rug fabric onto shoe

3. Glue

Grab some E6000 or whichever strong glue you have and glue the cut-outs to the slides.

Glue the top and bottom edges of the fabric tucked inside the top of the slides.

Holding fabric in place

Use clothespins to hold the fabric in place while it dries.
