How to Make a Skirt Out of a Tablecloth in 3 Quick & Easy Steps
In my last tutorial, I showed you how to make your own Christmas dress out of an old top and a festive tablecloth. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make a skirt out of a tablecloth in literally a few minutes.
Tablecloths are literally one big piece of fabric, and if you have one that you don’t use, you can transform it into something spectacular. If you have a plaid printed tablecloth, this will also work well for the holidays.

Tools and materials:
- Tablecloth
- Skirt
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Thread
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
1. Cut the pattern
The first step is to fold your tablecloth in half with the edges evenly lined up!
Then, go ahead and fold your table cloth again, so you have a point on one end, as shown.
Now, cut out the point.
When you unfold your tablecloth, you will have a perfect, centered circle! Simply pop it over your body to see if the circle fits snugly around your thighs.
If you need to make the circle a little bigger, fold the fabric again and cut a little more.
2. Amend the skirt
Now, cut the bottom hem off your skirt.
3. Assemble the DIY skirt
Pop the skirt into the hole in the tablecloth, with the right sides facing, and the raw edges lined up evenly. Stitch the raw edges together.
Remember, you’ll be adding the fabric to the bottom of the skirt, so ensure the skirt is facing bottom up.
Once you have your tablecloth attached to your skirt, flip it right sides out and marvel at this beautiful piece of work. Do a tight, wide zigzag stitch on the outside seam to help it lay flat and look cohesive.
