Easy updos for short hair

1. Make a ponytail

Scrape your hair into a ponytail with a hair elastic toward the midback of the head. If you like your hair in the front to be flat, skip to the next section.

If you’re like me and you like volume in the front, you can do it either of two ways.

Gathering hair and pulling to make a bump

The first is just to gather the hair high, twist it, and pull it to make a bump. Make the ponytail.

Gathering the front section of hair

The second is to gather a chunk of the hair in the front, pull the hair high, twist it, and use a small butterfly clip to secure the bump. Then make the ponytail with whatever hair is left from the back and sides.

Clipping the hair piece into place

2. Install the hairpiece

It’s crucial you get the hairpiece to match your hair color. Make sure your hairpiece has a clip.

While most instructions tell you to place the clip upward or downward, it’s more secure if you place it sideways. Place the hairpiece sideways into your ponytail.

Fluffing the back of the hair piece

Fluff it around to make sure it covers part of the ponytail.

3. Clip it in

Use the banana clip up flush against the bottom of the ponytail and some of the hair in the back of your head.

Please use the banana clips with flat teeth and not the claw type. This further secures and anchors the hairpiece and makes it look more natural.

4. Finishing touches

If you’ve got short hair, some of your smaller hairs may be sticking out. Gather them up with your hands, twist them, and then place the second butterfly clip to secure them.

Pull out of some hairs in the front to soften the look.
