Use Wood and Resin to Create a Pendant?!
I saw a wood and resin pendant that I liked, and I wanted to have a go at making it just using epoxy resin, with copper resin resembling the wood.
In this tutorial, I’m trying a new technique, and I wanted to bring you along for the ride. Let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Epoxy resin
- Resin dye
- Mica powder
- Teardrop molds
- Pendant molds
- Rubbing alcohol
- Popsicle sticks
1. Mix resin with dye
Mix your resin to give you 80ml in total. Dye 10ml with copper dye, 30ml with black dye, and keep the other 40ml clear.
Also, add some black mica powder to the black resin to give it more of a shine.
2. Add resin to mold
In a teardrop mold, add some black resin, then add a copper layer, and then add a lot of clear.
The reason why we didn’t make so much copper resin is because we’re just using it as an in-between color.
After the clear, add another small bronze layer and a black layer.
Then, add a bit more clear resin in the middle to push the bronze and the black to the sides a bit more.
3. Repeat
Repeat the same process with the second pendant.
4. Spray with alcohol
Take some 91% alcohol in a spray bottle and spray the molds.
This will help prevent bubbles from forming. Then leave the resin to dry for 24-36 hours.
5. De-mold
Once the resin is all dry, it’s time to de-mold.
I recommend making a lot so if some of them don’t turn out the way you want them to, you can discard them, and you will still have enough pendants to make matching pairs.
Wood and resin pendants
I also made some pendants so that I could make necklaces as well as earrings.
So there we have our wood and resin-inspired earrings and pendants, just using resin.
Although not all of them turned out the way I wanted them to, overall, I’m pleased with the end results and really like the design. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
