In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a braided bun simply by sliding the braids into each other.

Combining the braids creates a gorgeous and graceful look, perfect for when a simple messy bun just won’t do. Let’s jump right into it!

Tools and materials:

Hair ties
Bobby pins

Sectioning hair

1. Section

Separate your hair in half with a left and right section.

Braiding hair

2. Braid down

Braid each section down, starting at the crown and braiding against the scalp with either a Dutch or French braid. Tie them off.

Pulling on braid

3. Thicken the braid

Tug at the sides of the braids to widen it for a thicker braid.

4. Pull the left braid through the right

Pull the left braid through the middle of the right braid.

5. Pull the right braid through the left

Pull the right braid through the middle of the left braid. Ensure you’re pulling the braid at the same length for each braid so it isn’t uneven.

Pulling braids underneath

6. Pull the braid underneath the opposite braid

Pull each braid underneath the opposite braid. This kind of wrapping should create a bun at the nape of the neck.

Tucking ends

7. Tuck the ends

Tuck the ends of each braid underneath the bun.

Pinning hair

8. Pin

Pin the ends to secure them.
