How to Make Cute Scrunchies With Tails Without Sewing a Stitch
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make scrunchies with tails. Scrunchies never go out of fashion, and I’m going to show you how to make scrunchies with tails, a beautiful twist on the timeless and classic scrunchie version. It’s also a fantastic way to put your fabric scraps to good use.
This is a super-fast tutorial, so page down to get my step-by-step DIY instructions for this scrunchie with tails project. Let’s start!
Tools and materials:
- Hair elastic
- Chiffon fabric
- Scissors
- Lighter
1. Cut the fabric
Cut a long piece of fabric measuring 12cm (4.72 inches) wide and 150cm (59.05 inches) long.
2. Seal the edges
Chiffon is known to fray, so it’s advisable to seal off the edges with a lighter. Take caution with this step, though. Simply glide the lighter along all the edges, as shown.
3. Tie the knots
Before tying the knots, make sure to leave a 25cm (9.84 inches) tail from the elastic.
Now, make a loop or circle to the right of the elastic.
Then, pull the string through from underneath the loop. You should be pulling the longer end through and not the 25cm (9.84 inches) end.
Once the fabric is pulled through, tighten the knot.
Now, alternate the sides, repeating the same process on the left. So, move the fabric to the left to form a loop.
Pull the fabric from under the left circle.
Then, tighten that knot, too.
Repeat these knots, alternating sides each time. Do this until the elastic is knotted all the way around.
When you get to the end, you’ll have two tails hanging off the scrunchie. Tie 2 knots with the tails and tighten them. Like this, you will be closing the scrunchie.
4. Adjust the tails
You can adjust the tails as you desire. I made my DIY scrunchie with tails a little curved at the bottom.
Remember to seal the fabric!
