How to Create the Best Eye Makeup Look for Older Women
If you’re over 50 and looking for a makeup look that suits mature skin, I’ve got just the thing for you!
Follow along with this step-by-step tutorial to create the best eye makeup for older women.
The products I'm using today are from the Look Fabulous Forever range, made specifically for mature skin. However, you can achieve the same results with any brand of product.
Tools and materials:
- 2 alligator clips
- Eye primer
- Assorted makeup brushes
- Taupe eyeshadow
- Mauve eyeshadow
- Eyeliner
- Eyelash curler
- Black waterproof mascara
- Spoolie brush
- Brow pencil
1. Prep your eyes
Pull back your hair and make sure your skin is clean and dry. I’ve already applied the rest of my makeup.
With a concealer brush, apply a pinhead amount of eye primer to each lid, including above the socket.
Eye primer will mask pigmentation in the eyelids to allow the true color of the makeup to show through. It will also prevent creasing for long-lasting wear.
Tip: If you’ve lost most of your eyebrows, apply brow liner now so that you can see where to apply the eyeshadow.
2. Apply taupe eyeshadow
Apply a wash of taupe eyeshadow all over your eyelids, including above the socket line.
Matte eyeshadows are particularly forgiving for older skin.
3. Apply mauve eyeshadow
Apply mauve eyeshadow just above the socket line, coming down to the outer corners of the eyes in a V shape.
Then blend it out into the taupe.
4. Apply eyeliner
Apply eyeliner on your upper lids, starting from the outer corner and moving in with short, feathery strokes.
Apply eyeliner to the bottom lash line at the outer edges only.
With a wedge brush, go over the eyeliner on top and bottom with a tiny amount of mauve eyeshadow.
5. Curl your lashes
Gently curl your upper eyelashes.
6. Apply mascara
Apply a black mascara to your upper lashes. Blink onto the lash wand and wiggle it upward.
I recommend choosing a waterproof variety for watery eyes.
7. Treat your brows
Apply a tiny amount of highlighter under the outer edges of your brows.
Then blend with a concealer brush. This will give a sharper finish to your brows.
Use a spoolie brush to tame your brows.
Then fill in the gaps in a matching shade of brow pencil using small strokes.
Elongate the outer edges slightly if you’re missing those ends. Then use a spoolie brush to soften the strokes.
Here’s the final look:
