Learn how to make a calamine soap recipe with calamine lotion or powder. This is a melt and pour soap recipe, so it's easy to make at home.
Calamine lotion is great for itchy skin, minor burns, and other minor skin irritations. Use it after being exposed to poison ivy to dry it out. It's also good for bug bites, acne, and to use after being in the sun. Calamine can be drying, so don't use it all the time. Just use it as needed. You can also use calamine powder. Use 1 tablespoon per pound of soap.
You will need:
  • 1 pound melt and pour soap
  • 2 tablespoons calamine lotion
  • 1 teaspoon shea butter
  • 12 drops essential oils (I used Bumps and Boo Boos)
  • flower soap mold
Cut the soap into 1 inch cubes. Place in a microwave safe container and add the shea butter. Heat in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring at each interval, until melted.
Add the calamine lotion and stir well.
Then add the essential oils and stir again.
Pour into the soap mold. Let cool completely. The calamine lotion will sink to the bottom, but I think it gives it a neat effect!
Use as needed for minor skin irritations and bug bites. It can be drying, so don't use it all the time.
Ingredients

  • 1 pound melt and pour soap
  • 1 teaspoon shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons calamine lotion
  • 12 drops essential oils
Instructions

Cut the soap base into 1 inch cubes. Place them in the measuring cup and add the shea butter. Microwave in 30 second bursts until melted, stir between intervals.
Add the calamine lotion and stir very well.
Add the essential oils and stir well.
Pour the poison ivy soap recipe into the molds. Let sit until the soap is completely cool.
When the soap is cool, remove from the mold. The calamine lotion will sink to the bottom, but I think it gives it a really pretty effect.
