How To Get Wednesday Addams Style

If you’re obsessed with the Netflix series “Wednesday,” no doubt you’re thinking about adding a little bit of goth girl style to your wardrobe.

The series spun off the original 1960’s “Addams Family” show and subsequent movies, follows lead character, Wednesday Addams as she enters her teenage years and is sent off to Nevermore boarding school. Not only are the sets on point for extremely dark academia, but Wednesday’s wardrobe is literally to die for – pun intended!

We all know the Addams Family members were the original goths, but the newly imagined teenage Wednesday is goth on steroids or, as one character comments, “she looks like an Instagram black and white filter.”

Yes, there are basically two colors you need in your wardrobe to get Wednesday Addams style, and that’s black and white.

Here’s a breakdown of some of her signature looks on the show and how to put it together.

School Uniform

Wednesday being sent to a boarding school for outcasts called Nevermore Academy creates the perfect setting for the dark academia look. The school uniform consists of a crisp white shirt with Peter Pan color, black tie, sweater vest, long skirt and blazer. Of course, Wednesday adds her own maximalist goth touch with chunky black shoes. If you have a blazer and a white shirt in your wardrobe, you’re on your way. And a sweater vest is a perfect addition for cold weather months. You can see more ideas for how to style one in my  previous article. You can check another  previous article on how get academia style.  Shop sweater vest.

Stripe shirts and sweaters

Black and white stripe t-shirts have been a signature look of punks and goths since the late 1970s. Just look at  the Ramones. There’s something about that bold stripe and stark colors that says rebellion and childlike innocence mixed in one. Wednesday wears several black and white stripe tops throughout the show, mostly when she’s out of her school uniform and doing her favorite past times of writing or playing the cello. She’s often seen pairing it with a casual black hoodie, which is an easy and comfortable look to add to your own closet.  Shop striped shirt.

Goth prom

Only Wednesday could get away with wearing all black to a theme party with an all-white dress code. Her moves on the dance floor to The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” also went viral. You can get her prom look by looking in vintage shops for a black lace layered ruffle dress, or do a more practical take with a black, puff sleeve button-down top with Peter Pan collar and full skirt. This look is actually a dress that is cut similar to Wednesday’s dress without the sheer lace. I added a black circle skirt over it for more fullness. Don’t forget to practice your dance moves!  Shop black dress.

Now that you have some ideas for how to get Wednesday Addams style, which one will you try first?
