Stretch Your Wardrobe With a Detachable Collar

If you’re looking for more versatility in your wardrobe, think about accessories. One accessory that can up-level your look is a detachable collar. These fun little cloth collars come in various styles and ways to wear them. There are tie-on collars, button-in-the-back collars, and collars with a little dickey shirt bib to create the illusion of a shirt underneath. Detachable collars are great for stretching your wardrobe by giving a new look to the shirts and sweaters you already have!

Don’t have one yet? Time to get shopping!

Change the look of your button-down shirts by swapping out the collar! Hide the existing collar on the shirt by turning it inward and tucking it underneath the shirt material. Then put your detachable collar (a tie-on or button-in-the-back style works best) over where the collar would sit. Voila! A whole new look for your shirt!

Dresses get an update with a new collar. Add one to a shirt dress (use the collar-tuck trick mentioned above for the existing collar) or try one with a crew-neck dress (which are great for the dickey-style collars.) You can play with print mixing or coordinate a new color into your outfit if you want the collar to match a belt, shoes, handbag, or even add a bold contrasting color.

Detachable collar on a sweater

I don’t know about you, but I get into a style rut every winter when I have to wear a sweater with everything. A detachable collar can help spruce up that sweater collection by adding fun prints and colors. Crew neck sweaters are perfect for tie-on collars and the one with a false-shirt dickey attached. It can help you get away from the bulk of putting a whole shirt underneath your sweater, but it still creates the same look!

T-shirts are a great staple to any wardrobe, but sometimes they can get a little boring. Jazz them up with a fun collar! The tie-on or button-on collars work best for these. I have a dickey collar on in this picture, and I noticed the bib line shows a little bit through the thin material of the t-shirt. So I added vest to cover it. If you have a thick t-shirt or one with a graphic design, it might not show as much.

So now that you know some ways to stretch your wardrobe with a detachable collar, which one will you try first?
