2023 Fashion Trends You Probably Already Have in Your Wardrobe

Cobalt blue is everywhere at the moment but many of us are past adding new items to our wardrobe every few weeks, preferring to shop more thoughtfully and sustainably. With that in mind, here's 4 fashion trends that are going to be big in 2023, which you may be able to partake in without splashing any cash.

Maxi Dresses

Maxi hemlines were big on the runways for SS23 and most of us probably already own a few options. You may or may not have maxi cardigans or maxi coats, but more than likely you do at least have a long sundress that will work for this trend. A midi dress will work too, especially for more petite women.

When cottagecore was big, I'd have recommended styling with a straw hat and bag, but for a more contemporary, minimalist aesthetic, pair with chunky boots or trainers.

I remember when I started blogging in March 2020, underwear-as-outerwear was a trend! (I'm not sure for who, as we were all stuck indoors.) Lingerie-inspired clothing is back again for 2023, with corsetry a frontrunner. However, if you want to dip your toe in the trend without buying anything new, look for something in your wardrobe with sheer sleeves to nod to the trend without going full-on Ann Summers model.

You can even wear this trend to the office, with a sheer blouse over a strappy top.

Asymmetric Hemlines

If you've got a skirt or dress with a slit at the thigh, bingo. You're bang on trend for 2023. Absolutely EVERYTHING from the early 00s is back, including grunge, low-rise jeans, peplum tops and the asymmetric hemlines my mum was VERY vocal about hating.

Personally I love this trend, because I love a classic piece such as a little black dress with a little bit of added interest. Asymmetric hems do just that.

Denim, Denim, Denim

It never goes out of fashion but denim is especially big this year. I'm not even a jeans girl and of course I have a pair of jeans in my wardrobe. They're definitely an item I reach for out of practicality rather than style, but the runways for SS23 have inspired me to add more denim to my wardrobe - in particular, a denim maxi skirt, ticking off two timeless trends that I will be able to bring out year after year.

That is key - if you are going to buy into any trends this year, make sure they are items that will always be in fashion. There's a reason I've not said much about peplum hems in this blog post!
