Fashion Over 40: 6 Cute Summer Evening & Night Out Outfits

In this style guide, I’m going to show you some summer night-out outfits. No matter how you’ll be spending your summer evenings - going out to eat with your loved one, getting a drink with friends, or just strolling around town - this lookbook will help you figure out what to wear on a summer night out.

Ted Baker A-line dress

1. A-line dress

The first outfit is this Ted Baker dress; I think that Ted Baker dresses are amazing quality and not too expensive.

I would wear this dress to a summer wedding or a friend’s birthday party. The dress skims so nicely over my stomach, and I like that the fabric is on the heavier side, so it won't crease easily.

Because it’s an A-line design, this dress is also a good option for women with bigger hips. I paired the dress with some peep-toe slingbacks and a black bag.

2. White shorts

For the next outfit, I’m wearing white tailored shorts and a gorgeous sequined and beaded camisole top. I paired the outfit with some nude patent wedges and an embellished Gucci bag which is my pride and joy.

These neutral colors feel very light and carefree, which is exactly the vibe I want to create in summer.

3. Frills

For the next outfit, I’m wearing shorts as well. The shorts are high-waisted which makes my legs look longer, and the frills are placed in just the right place. I have wide hips, and if the frills were a bit higher, right in the middle of my hips, it would make my hips look bigger.

These shorts are very flirty and are kind of in-between shorts and a skirt; they could easily be mistaken for a skirt at the front.

I paired the shorts with a frilly shirt to carry on the frilly theme throughout the look. The vertical frills of the shirt really complement the horizontal frill on the shorts.

You can’t really see them, but I paired them with some open-toe, slingback shoes like the black ones that I wore before, but these ones are suede and in a pink color that is almost identical to the shorts.

4. Flared white trousers

The next two outfits feature white trousers. I have many pairs of white trousers, both full-length and cropped, and I think you can’t go wrong with them. I like to mix and match them with different tops in my wardrobe.

These trousers balance my wide hips quite well because they are flared. Tailored trousers don’t have to just be straight-legged; you can get flared ones too like these. The top that I’m wearing with the trousers is one in a blush pink that is off the shoulder and made from a plisse material.

On my feet, I’m wearing some shoes with a bit of a vintage Gucci look; they are white and pale gold and comfy because they have a low heel. Last but not least, my Gucci bag is the perfect finishing touch.

5. Straight-leg white trousers

For the next white trouser outfit, I’m wearing these trousers made from a nice thin and stretchy cotton. I love wearing them because I can pair them with many different tops.

Here I went for a silky and flowy top. I have about three or four of these in different colors, and they’re great for wearing in warmer weather because they’re so open.

I paired the outfit with some blue strappy shoes, I love this shoe style, and I have the same ones in nude as well.

Finally, I went with a white handbag which ties in nicely with the trousers, and because it’s a neutral color, it very easily goes with anything.

6. Scalloped

For the last outfit, I’m wearing some shorts that are scalloped at the bottom. I love the deep blue color, and the scalloped effect adds a nice little bit of detail.

I’m wearing the shorts with an off-shoulder top in a similar color palette. The very colorful top is balanced out nicely by the solid color of the shorts.

Remember when choosing outfits to keep your body shape in mind and go for pieces that will look flattering on you by brushing over the features that you’re maybe more self-conscious of and highlighting your best ones.
