If you want to know how to dress to look slim and taller, then follow this tutorial!

I will show you some clothing choices and styling techniques to create a longer vertical line.

You can mix and match these techniques however you like, to get the style that best suits your body shape, and visual goals!

High-waisted bottoms

1. Wear high-waisted bottoms

It doesn’t matter if you are wearing jeans, cargo pants, skirts or dresses, always choose a high-waisted style.

A high-waisted bottom will instantly make you look like you have longer legs.

Mid-waisted bottoms

2. Don’t cut yourself off at the ankles

If you want your legs to look longer, then you need to avoid the illusion of cutting them off.

Instead, always choose long lines.

Don’t cut yourself off at the ankles

This also applies to skirts. If you wear a skirt that cuts your legs at the knee, it will make you look shorter.

Likewise with jackets: if it cuts you off mid-thigh, or at the knee it will make you look shorter.

Opt for longer lengths to elongate your vertical line.

Wear heels

3. Wear heels

Heels achieve two things: they give you additional height, and they sculpt your legs.

Those two things together will enhance your vertical line.

Wear monochrome outfits

4. Wear monochrome outfits

If you wear one color, top to bottom, then nothing is cutting your body anywhere and you create one long line that makes you look taller.

My color of choice is black, but this technique works with any color you choose.

Show off your waistline

5. Show off your waistline

Cinch your waist with a belt to elongate your vertical line.

Think about cutting your body in thirds, with your waist being one-third the way down.

Then your legs, with two-thirds of your vertical line, look much longer.

Show off your waistline

You can see the difference it makes here, when you cut your body at your waistline vs. at your hips, which cuts you in half.

You can also emphasize your waist by wearing a short jacket or blazer – one that sits above your waistline.

Tip: If you carry your weight around your waistline, then don’t use this technique, because it will bring attention to what you want to de-emphasize.

Tuck in your tops

6. Tuck in your tops

If you are trying to deflect attention from the center of your body, then this tip is not for you.

But, if you have an hourglass shape, then tucking in your top will help you look taller.

This technique is especially helpful when you combine it with wearing high-waisted bottoms.

Choose pointed-toed or nude shoes

7. Choose pointed-toed or nude shoes

Wearing pointed-toed shoes makes you look taller because your shoes will continue drawing out the long vertical line you are creating with the other clothing techniques.

Tip: If you are not a fan of pointed-toed shoes, then choose a nude-toned shoe.

Consider your pant width

8. Consider your pant width

Flared pant legs may actually make you look a bit shorter.

Wide-legged pants or pants that hang a bit away from your skin will give you a longer look.

Necklines

9. Necklines make a difference

When you wear a V-neck top, the V draws the eye down, enhancing the vertical line illusion.

Horizontal lines, including wide necklines, cut you off and shorten the illusion.

Mini skirt

10. Try mini-skirts!

If you are petite and want to look longer, give mini-skirts a try!

A mini-skirt, with matching tights and footwear will make your legs look like they go on for miles!
