Have you ever wondered how to dress to look slim and tall? There are a few tricks and hacks you can take advantage of to elongate your body. So, without further ado, let’s get into my top fashion tips for how to dress to flatter your figure!

All-black outfit

1. Wear black

It's a general rule that everyone knows; wearing all black can make you look slimmer. Of course, wearing all black can get a little bored, but you could try for different tones, such as dark gray.

Comparison of wearing and not wearing tights

2. Wear tights or leggings

This is another great tip - wear tights or leggings. This gives the illusion that your legs are much slimmer. I personally prefer translucent leggings for a better effect.

Here’s a comparison for you, do you see how wearing tights makes my legs appear slimmer?

Wearing heels vs flats comparison

3. Wear heels

I never used to be a heels person, but now I am. Wearing heels makes you look instantly slimmer... and taller, obviously.

Cinching the waist with a belt

4. Accentuate areas you like

Everyone has their favorite areas of their body that they are most comfortable showing off. For me, for example, it’s my collarbone and waist. So, the magic trick here is to show off your best parts!

Here, I layered a long cardigan over my all-black outfit and added a belt to cinch in my waist.

Highlighting the waist and collar bones

Here, I’m wearing a chic blue satin blouse that I tucked under my skirt. Then, I wrapped the shirt ties around my waist, and voilà!

Dressing to slim the hip area

Other the other hand, I feel that my hips are wide and they are not areas that I want to show, so wearing high-waisted pants and skirts will cover that up, effortlessly.

How to highlight your best assets

In this style, I cinched my waistline with a belt and opted for a slightly lower cut neckline to show off my collar bone area.

Another place I don't particularly like showing is my arms.

So, this white flowy cardigan is a brilliant way to cover them up!

What to wear to look slim

I mentioned that I prefer covering my hips and this long, high-waisted skirt gives me exactly what I need! Flowy around the hips but tight around the waist.

I feel I can wear this confidently without being too worried about my hip area.

This last piece is my favorite! It matches all of my rules thus far; black on top, a highwaisted, long skirt to cover my hips, a wide neckline to flaunt my collarbone, and a belt to show off my waistline.

How to correct your posture

5. Posture

A lot of people overlook posture, but it makes a world of a difference. Keep your chin up and your back and shoulders straight.

Slouching can make you appear shorter and it's not good for your spine. Also, presenting yourself with correct posture boosts your confidence.

Wearing hair up

6. Let your hair down

Hairstyles can also affect your overall body shape. In the image above, I have my hair tied up and it blocks the flow of the elongated look. It also makes my shoulders appear wider.

Wearing hair down

Letting your hair down fills up the empty spaces around your shoulder area and gives the illusion of smaller shoulders.

You are beautiful and slim and don't have any noticeable body flaws. I weigh a hundred pounds more than you and many of your tips won't work with me. But I love your grey skirt and think I may try to make a similar one for myself. Nice post. Smile next time!
