A few weeks ago I got a reader question about what tops to wear with light wash jeans.
I have a few pairs of light wash jeans that are on constant repeat during the summer months, so I wanted to share a few easy outfits you can wear with this style of jeans (and my favorites are all linked at the bottom of this post).
Here are ideas of what goes well with light wash jeans
The easy answer is, you can wear anything you want! Every color looks great with these jeans – don’t overthink it!
Try these with light wash jeans:
- bold colors
- black or white
- feminine tops
- sweaters
- t-shirts
- printed tops
- ruffle sleeves
- blouses
The options are endless!!
Here’s the most important thing when choosing your outfit
Here are a few important things to remember:
- Choose light wash jeans THAT FIT. No gapping at the waist, no pointed crotch, no squeezing to fit into them.
- Light was jeans are casual, so make sure you’re choosing tops accordingly. If you choose a dressier top, choose dressier shoes to match.

I love this outfit. A feminine blouse dresses up the more masculine style of jeans, and the embellished shoes match the dressiness level. Adding a baseball hat in a neutral, more feminine style, compliments the casual jeans perfectly.

You can absolutely wear a jacket with light jeans. An olive jacket like this is a great casual option.

Yes, you can wear black with light-wash jeans! Balance out the dark top with some dark booties. I love this outfit for a fall day when it’s still hot.

Again, don’t be afraid to do bold colors with your light jeans! This one has a flutter sleeve, so I made sure to balance the fullness with a tucked in shirt (we need to create a waist!)
