Looking for an empowering Halloween costume? In this tutorial, I'll share how to do Halloween Wonder Woman makeup that looks like it's popped right out of a DC comic! This look is simple to recreate and definitely adds something extra to any Wonder Woman Halloween costume. Let's get started.
Tools and materials:
- Contour
- Various shades of concealer
- Highlighter
- Assorted application brushes
- Translucent powder
- FX paint palette
- Matte brown eyeshadow (dark)
- Neutral colored eyeshadow
- Black cream liner
- Fake lashes
- Peachy blush
- Black eye pencil
- Red lipstick
1. Highlight and contour
To get that comic book character appearance, it’s crucial to contour and highlight your face heavily. First, apply a light concealer to your forehead, chin, under-eye, under your eyebrow, jawline, and the center of your nose. Then, buff it out using a good buffing brush.
To add some contour to the face, go in with a darker color. Apply this around the lighter color and the rest of the areas without concealer. Remember, it’s super important to create an obvious distinction between the highlights and the shadows for that comic book look.
To blend it in, use a smaller brush; like this, you’ll keep the concentration of the contour in those specific areas.
Go back in with a highlight color; apply it to the eyelids, cheekbones, and over your eyebrows.
Using a super light highlight color, bring some bright spots to the face by applying it down the bridge of your nose, philtrum, forehead, chin, and under the eyes. Buff it out afterward.
Set your makeup with a small amount of translucent powder.
2. Make the headpiece
Now, it’s time to draw on Wonder Woman's iconic gold headpiece for. I’m using black FX paint with an angled brush and paint from my FX palette. Trace the shape of the headpiece, as shown. Think of drawing a widespread “V,” just as a toddler would draw a bird.
Darken your hairline with brown or black face paint.
Now, apply metallic gold to the forehead area.
Tip: When working with metallic-based products, try to work your brush in one direction.
Create the star emblem on the headpiece with a deep red color. Then, go in with a bit of red and black paint mixed together, and outline the star with an angled brush for dimension.
To create a 3D appearance, mix black and gold and apply it to the side of your temples.
With a matte brown eyeshadow, follow the bottom line of the mask.
3. Apply eye makeup
Go ahead and fill in your eyebrows. Follow your natural shape but make them thicker. Use a stencil if your eyebrows are thin.
Add more highlighter to either side of your brow.
Now, apply a matte brown eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eye and blend it out. Then, apply eyeshadow to the socket of the eye.
To frame the eye, apply the same eyeshadow under the lower lashline.
Apply a light nude color to your mobile eyelids.
Line the top lid with a black cream liner. Draw in a thick, straight line on the outer corner.
Then, tightline your eyes and color between your lashes.
Apply fake lashes.
4. Add the finishing touches
Add a deep, peachy blush.
To create the perfect Wonder Woman makeup, it’s best to use the same color lipstick as you see in the comic, and it’s a deep, bright red.
5. Create the comic lines
Draw a black line all the way down the right side of your nose and follow the curve to the bottom. Then, draw a line on the base of your nostril and follow the edge up and around the nostril.
Add some sketch lines on the other side of your nose.
Add a line following the curve of your chin on the left side.
Now, deepen the line of the base of the mask with the same black paint.
Add some sketch lines to the mask.
Add some white highlighted areas to give off a fantastic comic book effect. Apply white paint to your lips and a couple of highlights along the left side of the crown.
