Everyone knows that fall means flannel! It’s the perfect style and material to snuggle up in when the weather starts to turn cooler. I’m willing to bet you already have at least one flannel shirt in your closet. Most of us, though, end up wearing the same items of clothing the same way each time we put them on. So in this tutorial, I’ll show you six different ways to style your flannel. One thing they all have in common? They’re all cute.

How to style a flannel
Layer it with a sweater

A classic way to wear a flannel shirt is as the middle layer. Put on a pair of jeans and a solid-colored shirt, then put on your flannel shirt and keep it unbuttoned. Finish the look off with a long, open cardigan. Fold up the sleeves of the cardigan so that your flannel shows under it for a cute but casual look.

Tie it around your waist

This look works especially well if you have a flannel shirt that has a design or picture on the back. Fold it over so that the design shows, then tie the shirt around your waist. A plain long-sleeve t-shirt in white makes your flannel pop even more.

Tie the ends

Buttoning up the shirt and tying off the ends gives you a super fun vibe. If you can match your pants to the color of the flannel shirt, that’s even better! Add a belt with a nice, big buckle to finish off this cool look.

Leave it unbuttoned but tuck it in

A great way to style a flannel shirt is by leaving it unbuttoned and tucking it into your pants. You can choose any t-shirt to go under the flannel, but I find that a solid-colored crop top really does the trick. This look also looks amazing with a graphic tee or even a plain white one.

Button it up

We can’t forget the classics. Buttoning up your flannel shirt and rolling up the sleeves a bit is always a good way to go. Tuck the shirt into a pair of shorts, jeans, or a skirt; no matter your choice, you can’t go wrong with this timeless look.

Fall flannel
Wear it over a dress

For an easy and effortless look, throw a flannel jacket over a solid-colored mini dress. You’ll look cute, comfortable, and cozy, and it will only take you minutes to throw together. Don’t have a flannel jacket? This look will work just as well with a flannel shirt in any color.

Flannel for fall

I hope these ideas for how to style flannel come in handy next time you’re in the mood to change it up. I wore a different flannel shirt for each style, but all six looks can work with the same shirt as well, so don’t be afraid to mix and match and to get creative! I’d love to know which of these styles was your favorite, so let me know in the comments! And if you have a style I didn’t mention, be sure to show me a picture! Stay cozy, y’all!
