Cleaning Stinky Shoes and Making Them Fresh Again
Do your shoes stink even after washing them?
Here are 4 amazing tips that will help you combat odor and keep your shoes fresh between washes.
Tools and materials:
- Socks
- Baking soda
- Essential oils (optional)
- Dryer sheets
- Organza bags
1. Cover the insoles with socks
Remove the insoles from your already clean shoes.
Grab a pair of clean, thin socks. Flip them inside-out and then put them over the insole insert to cover them completely.
The extra sock will absorb sweat and smells, so you can replace your insole less often.
When they’re dirty, you can remove the socks, toss them in the washing machine, and replace them.
2. Absorb smells with a DIY scent ball
Grab a cloth or other breathable materials, and add baking soda and essential oils (optional).
Bundle it up and secure it with a rubber band or tie.
Place a bundle into each shoe. The baking soda will absorb the smells and your shoes will be much less stinky.
3. Add organza bags filled with dried flowers
If you don’t want to create your own scent ball, grab these organza bags with dried flowers and place them in your shoes for a refreshing, floral scent.
4. Add dryer sheets to shoes
Add dryer sheets to the shoes you keep by the door, so guests will be greeted by fresh laundry instead of your smelly workout shoes.

The dryer sheets will also deter insects. I use them in ant entrances all the time. I don't know if they will send a scorpion out of your boot/shoe. But, it is better to tray than do nothing.
OMG, my grandson’s football cleats are something else after a game. I actually spray the inside of them with oust or Lysol to kill bacteria.
