How to Make Cute Button Earrings

Tools and materials:

• Small buttons
• Jump rings
• Earring wires
• Chain nose pliers
• Bent nose pliers

1. Open up the jump rings

Begin by opening up all of your twelve jump rings.

To open them up, find where the little slit in the jump ring is, and then take your bent nose and chain nose pliers and center that slit in between them so that they are each holding one end.

Bring one hand towards you and move one hand away from you. You don’t want to open the jump rings sideways. You want to open them from front to back.

When it comes to closing the jump ring, do exactly the same thing in reverse.

Make sure that your jump rings are the right size so that they will go through one of the holes in the button and around the button itself.

2. Add a button to the jump ring

Line up your buttons for both earrings in the same order unless, of course, you don’t want the design to be exactly symmetrical.

Place a button in a jump ring and then close the jump ring.

3. Add another jump ring

Keep a hold of the first jump ring, grab the next jump ring and place it through the first one.

4. Add another button

Then grab your next button, place it on the second jump ring and then close the jump ring. 

5. Continue the process

Continue this process until you’ve used all six jump rings and buttons.

6. Add the earring wire

Place the earring wire on the final jump ring and then close up the earring wire.

Repeat the same process for the second earring and you’re done.

This is the finished pair of earrings. I think they're really cute.

In terms of the color of the buttons, go for a mix of neutral tones and some brighter, but you can go for whatever color scheme you like.
