Prepare the chains

Before starting construction on your DIY dangle chain earrings, you will need to cut a few lengths of chain first with your cutter tool. You will need eight 1-inch chains, four ¾-inch chains, four 1¼-inch chains, four 1¾-inch chains, and two 2-inch chains.

Bead the headpin

Once you have your chains cut to the appropriate lengths, you can begin attaching the beads and chains to the headpin. Start by slipping on a bead, and then alternating chain, bead, chain, bead, using an increasingly longer chain each time until the middle, and then using increasingly shorter chains until the end. See 1:17-2:45 in the video for more detailed instructions.

Make loops

Make a small loop on either side of the headpin, using round nose pliers.

How to make dangle chain earrings

If your loops don’t end up facing the same way, grab both loops with pliers, and twist them so they’re facing the same direction.

Curve the headpin

If you like it straight, this step is not necessary. But if you would like to add a curve to the line of beads and chains, you can create a curve in the headpin simply by pressing it into the shape you want with your fingers. Keep bending and pressing until you are satisfied with the shape.

Attach chains

Open the loops on either end just enough to slip a 1-inch chain onto it, and then twist and press the loop closed again with a round nose pliers.

Attach the shepherd’s hook

Open the loop at the bottom of the shepherd’s hook, and slide the last link of the chains on either side of the headpin onto the loop. Then close the loop tightly, ensuring the chain can’t slip off.

How cute are these?! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you use this tutorial to make these silver chain dangle earrings, or even use this idea as inspiration for a different project, I would love to see your creations!
