Cutting the sweater to match the dress

1. Make the DIY romper pattern

Lay your sweater out flat and place a dress on top. Make sure this is one of your best-fitting dresses, as this will get the measurements and shape right. Next, cut the sides, starting at the waistline.

Do not cut the sweater all the way down to the bottom; leave the bottom bit attached as this will be for the shorts (see the next step).

Cutting a v-shape in the center

For the bottom part, cut a v-shape in the center.

2. Sew the sides

Now, flip the sweater inside out and stitch the raw edges on the sides.

3. Attach a zipper

Grab a zipper, place it along the center-back, and cut the middle according to the zipper’s length.

Unzip the zipper and align the left and right sides of the zipper to the left and right sides of the open sweater. Fold the raw edges of the sweater onto the zipper’s sides by about ½ an inch, pin, and sew to secure.

4. Sew the crotch area

While the sweater is still inside out, go ahead and sew the crotch area.
