Make Your Own Trendy Lace-up Pants

In today’s DIY, I’m going to show you how to make a pair of women’s lace-up pants out of some basic black pants. Let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Black pants
- Scissors
- Corset ribbon
- Regular ribbon
- Pins
- Sewing machine/materials
- Fray check
1. Mark where you want the slits
To start these DIY lace-up pants, grab a pair of old high-waisted black pants that are very stretchy. While they’re still on your body, mark the legs where you want to start the slits.
2. Cut the slit marked in the previous step
Fold your jeans in half and cut the slit that you marked on your pants. You don’t want it to be too long because that will make the hole very wide. You also don’t want it to be too small, because when we attach all of the pieces and put on your cut-out lace-up pants, you won’t be able to see any of the skin.
3. Measure the opening
Next, you will need to measure how long you want the opening to be on your pants. I used my ribbon, and then I cut a slit there. Then repeated the step for the bottom.
4. Cut from the top slit to the bottom slit
Split it open from the top to the bottom from one slit to the other. Do this to all sides of your pants.
5. Cut your corset ribbon
After you finish cutting your pants, take the corset ribbon and line it up so when you cut them, they’re all the same length. You want to cut two for each side, top and bottom.
6. (Optional) Make the hole wider
I decided to make the holes wider because I wanted to show more of my legs. You do not have to do this step if you just want it to be a slight hole, but I wanted it to be very wide so I opened it up more.
7. Pin and sew the corset ribbon to the pants
After that, lay the corset ribbon right on top of the pants and pin them in place on either side of the hole so when you sew, it’s not going to move. I used a sewing machine, but you can hand sew if you like. Just make sure you stitch it down well on all sides. If you’re using a sewing machine, don’t forget to back stitch so your stitches stay in place. If you’re hand-sewing, don’t forget to leave knots at the end before you cut them off. Repeat this for both the top and bottom holes.
8. Cut excess thread
Cut off any excess thread that is showing.
9. Use fray check
Take some fray check and go along the edges that were not sewn, so the pants don’t fray in any space or at any point.
10. Lace your pants with the ribbon
Lace up your pants like you do your shoes with the ribbon. I suggest using a wider ribbon than I used.
