Fed Up of Frizz? Here's a Quick & Easy Guide to Plopping Curly Hair

Today, I want to talk about plopping curly hair. Plopping is a process that absorbs excess water from your hair and is done after you wash and style it.
Plopping is great for curly hair because it helps dry hair quickly without the roughness of a regular towel, which can tangle hair and make natural curls frizzy.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to plop hair using two simple methods. Let's get started.
Tools and materials:
- T-shirt towel or regular cotton t-shirt
How to plop hair with a t-shirt
Lay your cotton t-shirt out on a flat surface. Once you’ve washed your hair, gently (and very slowly) lay your hair down into the t-shirt.
Then, criss-cross the bottom ends around your head.
Knot the sleeves up at the top of your head.
If the sleeves hang down onto your face, then tuck them under the fabric.
Super stylish, I know!
How to plop hair with a towel
Just as in the t-shirt method, lay your towel down on a flat surface and slowly lay your hair and head down.
Note that a t-shirt towel or microfiber towel is best for this, as regular towels can cause frizz.
Bring the top part down to the nape of your neck.
Criss-cross in the front.
Then, criss-cross the back by wrapping the front piece around your head.
Pull the ends up to the top of your head and tie a knot.
Wait
What I really love about plopping is that I can go about my day while absorbing excess water from my hair. I can get dressed and do my makeup without my hair being in my face.
If you’re wondering how long to plop curly hair for, then I say 15 minutes is a good duration!
After I’m done getting ready for the day, I then let my hair down.
Scrunch
Take your t-shirt or t-shirt towel and gently scrunch up your hair. This will take out any leftover water from your hair. One of the benefits of plopping curly hair is that you’ll notice less frizz!
Clip the top section
To give your top section of hair more volume, put it up with a small clip, as shown. This is great for keeping my hair out of my face while it's drying as well.
Here’s a close-up of what my hair looks like after plopping. You can see there’s no wet frizz and the curls are more defined in nice little curl clumps. I now have wet curls that I can easily style or allow to dry naturally, without the frizz.
