90s hair is back, and the claw clip is trending!

In this tutorial, I’m going to show you claw clip hairstyles for thin hair and claw clip hairstyles for curly hair.

We can compare how very different it looks and so people with different hair textures can also be a part of the conversation.

Let’s get started!

Best hair volumizer!

Add volume to thin hair with this highly reviewed hair volumizer mousse that Amazon reviewers swear by!

Tools and materials:

  • Claw clips
Half clipped back, half down

1. Half clipped back, half down

In this first look, bring the top of your hair back and leave the hair around your ears softly down.

Pull out some at the front for framing, and clip the back with a tiny claw clip.

This is the same look on straight hair.

When my hair is this texture, I like pinching out the crown for volume and leaving some face-framing pieces.

If you don’t like having hair around your face, you can tuck it back when you’re doing these looks.

2. Twisted half pony

This next look is very similar, but instead of having the ends facing down, twist the hair and face them up so the ends are showing at the front.

This look was everything in the 90s.

On straight hair, you get a floppy, waterfall effect but on curly hair, it sticks up more and creates an illusion of volume at the top of your head.

You’ll notice in these styles, I play around with the hair part because how you part your hair will completely change the way the style and your face looks.

It gives you so much more style flexibility and so many different looks than if you left your part in its natural position.

What do you guys think of this look? Do you like it straight or curly?

3. Tucked in, twisted half pony

This look has a small alteration to look two.

Do the exact steps as you did previously, but instead of leaving the ends out, twist and tuck the ends in.

As you can see, I shifted my part over so I get more volume and more swoop at the front of my face.

Here’s the straight version.

Straight or curly?

4. Twisted back with mini clips

Before we move onto some styles that are all up, this next one is a great idea for hairstyles with mini hair clips.

Tiny claw clips

These tiny claw clips are great if you want to softly get a bit of hair off your face, but still want the hair to look predominantly down.

This is a really good look if your hair looks great, and you want to take some of the hair away from your face without putting your hair up and ruining it.

All you need to do is take some hair from the sides, twist it softly and clip it back.

How adorable is this style?

5. Twisted bun updo

For this next look, I want a vintage vibe so do a middle part and end the middle part at the crown.

Brush the rest of the hair at the crown back.

Next, put your hair into a ponytail in your hands and twist it up. Insert your claw clip, leaving the ends out.

Pull out the face frames and pinch the crown for texture and height.

Look how cute and voluminous this is without even backcombing!

Are we feeling the curly or the straight?

6. Tucked-in, twisted bun updo

You can do the same look by tucking the ends into the clip so they don’t stick out.

You can also completely change the vibe of the style by changing your part.

This style looks completely different, even though it’s essentially the same just because I moved my part from the middle to the side and tucked the ends in.

7. Low-clipped ponytail

Low-clipped ponytail

This final look is handy if you want to throw your hair in a ponytail, but want to take it out in a few hours without indenting it.

Just pull it back and clip it in place!

For this particular look, I love having a heavier face frame out and straight or curly, this look is so cute, convenient, and ridiculously easy to do.

I like both textures to your hair. They all look nice. I,personally, wouldn't straighten it since mine is finally curly after years of straightening it with a curling iron. I love using clips too. Child of the 80's here. Clips, headbands and scrunchies.
